Philomena Thiel, Scranton, died early Saturday morning at Allied Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton. She was the widow of George Arthur Thiel.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Angelo Charles Sileo and Carmella Emily Esposito Sileo, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Clark Summit State Hospital. She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish, Scranton.

She loved her family first and foremost. She was always there to support her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Noni made every day special but none more so than the holidays. She loved to cook and bake – especially homemade bread and Christmas cookies. Favorite sports teams were the Philadelphia Phillies and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband George and her children, and with her siblings and their spouses.

Surviving are two daughters, Valerie A., Scranton; and Deborah M., Macungie; a son, attorney Michael and his wife, Lynn, Clarks Summit; sisters, Mary and husband, Frank Lombardo, Roaring Brook Twp.; Nancy and husband, Eugene Banick, Conklin, N.Y.; brother, Angelo and wife, Lois Sileo, Dunmore; grandchildren, Nicole and Jerry Elliott, Michael, Lexi and Jason Thiel; great-grandsons, Hunter and Greysen Elliott; and a great-granddaughter on the way.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Sileo.

The family would like to thank Douglas Klamp, M.D. and Martin Hyzinski, M.D. and their staff, and the staff at Allied Skilled Nursing for the excellent support they provided during their mom’s extended illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. John Neumann Parish, Nativity Church, 633 Orchard St., Scranton. Friends are asked to go directly to church Thursday morning. Entombment to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Corey Brian Strauch Services LLC funeral home location, 602 Birch St., Scranton.
