Leona C. Eibach

Leona Eibach, a resident of Mountain View Care Center, Scranton died peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2019 following a brief illness. Leona was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Francis “Frank” Eibach.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Bridget Bugno Poch. Leona was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Following graduation, Leona was employed by the Sisters of Mercy. Leona worked at both St. Mary’s Hospital and then after the merger, Mercy Hospital where she was the supervisor of the medical record department. Leona’s employment with Sisters of Mercy spanned 45 years.

Leona was a lifelong member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, St. Paul of the Cross Parish. She was a member of Sacred Hearts Christian Mother’s Society, the Medical Record Librarian’s Association, and more recently the Young at Heart Bingo Club.

Leona was a kind, gentle woman who respected everyone. Her life was centered on faith, family and friends. Family was the focal point of her life and every moment spent with them was cherished. Her family will miss her, but are comforted that she is now at peace with God and reunited with Dad, her beloved parents and six siblings.

She is survived by her three sons, John W. and wife Jean, Factoryville; Joseph and wife Joannie, Scranton and James L. and wife Allison, New Smyrna Beach Florida, her six grandchildren, John F. and wife Penny, Carbondale; Thomas Eibach, Moosic; Jill Marie and husband Jason Travis, Tunkhannock; Kristen and husband Mark Hosterman, New Smyrna Beach Florida, James and wife Cindy, Edgewater, Florida, and Jessica Eibach, New Smyrna Beach, Florida; her 11 great grand children, Connor Eibach, Colin Eibach, Paige Travis, Evan Eibach, Jacob Hosterman, Lucy Eibach, Nicole Hosterman, Bridget Kapp, Leo Eibach, Wesley Kapp and Christian Travis.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Joseph and Alfred Poch, and her three sisters, Cecilia Poch, Claire Devine and Violet Langan.

Leona’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Mountain View Care Center, especially Dawn, her guardian angel, during Leona’s time of need.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00am in the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton PA 18505, with the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Scranton. All those wishing to attend the services are asked to go directly to church.

Friends may call Friday from 4-7pm in the Corey Brian Strauch Services, LLC, funeral home location, 602 Birch Street, Scranton, PA 18505.
