Helen B. Kirchner, 87, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Monday morning at the Allied Hospice Center, Scranton.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Lesh Bugno, she was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. She worked for Bell Telephone and until her retirement she worked at the U.S Post Office on Stafford Ave. in Scranton. She was a member of Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Scranton.
An avid reader, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, listening to music, putting together puzzles, and her cats.
Surviving are a daughter Patricia Hein and husband Douglas, Scranton; a daughter-in-law Maura Kirchner, Scranton; a sister Harriet Bennington, Scranton; brothers Joseph Bugno and wife Maryann, Old Forge; James Bugno and wife Lynn, Lake Ariel; grandchildren Donald E. Kirchner and wife Victoria, Abigail Hein Flynn and husband Trevor, Sara Kirchner, Mary Kirchner, Kelsey Hein and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Donald M. Kirchner, her daughter Ann Kirchner Walsh and son-in-law Gerald Walsh, her sister Marrianne Neiroda and brother-in-law Joseph Neiroda.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday (3-13-2025) at 10:00 am in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton, PA 18510. Interment to follow in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Covington Twp.
A visitation will be held Thursday from 9-10 am in the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo, 700 Nay Aug Place, Scranton, PA 18510.
